We were booked for this one by the couple's own daughter — she planned the entire evening for her parents, Simon and Audi, to mark 25 years of marriage. Simon is Malaysian, Audi is Indonesian, and twenty-five years in, their story still carries that cross-border spark that brought them together in the first place.

They're the kind of couple who make "simple" look like an art form. No pretense, no performance — just two people who've clearly liked each other for a quarter of a century, still finding reasons to hold hands across a dinner table.

When we asked what inspired an evening this grand, Simon's answer was simple: Audi never got to wear her dream wedding dress the first time around. Twenty-five years later, he wanted to give her that moment. She wore soft ivory that night — not a redo of a wedding gown, just a dress she finally got to have.

The Ruma set the scene perfectly — the room was kept low and warm, almost candlelit, with a live orchestra playing off to the side rather than performing for attention. It let the evening feel intimate rather than staged, even with everything happening in it. And then there was the cake, a showpiece by Shaun Teo Creations: multi-tiered, with a working carousel built right into the design, standing on its own table like the art piece it was.

Once dinner wound down, the room shifted gears entirely. The floor opened up, and what had been a room of seated dinner guests turned into a genuinely packed dance floor — twenty-five years of friendships all moving at once.

Twenty-five years in, and Simon still found a way to make his wife feel like a bride again. Everything else that night — the orchestra, the cake, the room — was just the beautiful backdrop to that.

Some anniversaries call for a quiet dinner. This one called for a live orchestra, a carousel cake, and a dance floor that didn't stop until the night did. We were lucky enough to be in the room for it.

If there's a milestone like this coming up in your family — 10 years, 25, 50 — and someone's already scheming the way Simon's daughter did, we'd love to be the ones to document it.
