"It is a waste if we hire Qay for a local wedding, so we decided to bring them to our destination wedding. Best decision ever."

That's what Arfiz's family told us when they booked us for this one — and once we found out what they were actually planning, it made a lot more sense.

Here's the twist: Arfiz and Tasha had no idea what was waiting for them. Their siblings had planned the entire celebration from start to finish, working with Eventures behind the scenes — the groom's side reception, done completely behind the couple's backs. Arfiz and Tasha just had to show up.

We flew in with them from KLIA2, on the earliest flight out — the kind where everyone's half-asleep with an in-flight magazine open and nobody quite believing the trip has actually started yet. By the time we touched down, the adventure already felt underway.

The next day was a portrait session in Nusa Penida — not the polished, empty-beach kind of portraits, but real ones. Our favorite frame from that session wasn't even about Arfiz and Tasha directly — a chicken wandered straight into shot mid-session, caught in a warm streak of light leak that made the whole thing look like it was meant to be. We shot them squeezed into the car between stops, caught a quiet close-up of the ring, and let them just be a couple weaving through the clifftop crowds rather than posing away from them. Real light, real chaos, real two people.

That evening, over a welcome dinner right on the beach, we pulled our own little surprise — a slideshow of the portraits from earlier that day, put together and played back for everyone right there. It's something we love doing for our couples when we can: giving them a moment to see the day they just had, before the day they didn't know was coming. The reactions around that table were some of our favourite frames of the whole trip, and we didn't even need a camera for those.

Tasha's dress for the reception was a piece by Rizalman — tiered, luminescent tulle with a finely beaded bib top and cap sleeves, built to feel delicate rather than showy. It suited the evening perfectly: elegant, but never trying too hard to prove it.

Then came the reception the siblings had been planning all along, at Villa Plenilunio itself. A beautifully styled dinner drenched in fresh flowers, every table a small garden of its own. Glen took the stage to perform for the bride and groom, and just when we thought the night had peaked, it closed with fireworks lighting up the sky over the villa.

Watching Arfiz and Tasha's faces as the night unfolded was the real story for us — they were guests at their own wedding in the best possible way, discovering each surprise in real time, right alongside everyone else in the room.
