They told me I'd never make it. They were wrong.
The story of Weddings by Qay is a story about stubbornness, obsession, and an absolute refusal to make ordinary photographs.
"I like to think I'm a regular person — a husband and father who loves travelling, food, films, and music. But of all my passions, photography sets my soul on fire."

I'm Qay — pronounced like the letter K — a destination wedding photographer working across Asia and Europe, with a very specific point of view: the most powerful photographs happen when nobody is performing for the camera.
My style is candid, cinematic, and deeply emotive. Not because it's trendy — but because it's honest. For over a decade, I've operated from the belief that a wedding photograph should feel like a memory, not a magazine spread.
Today, I shoot alongside Liya, my wife — bringing a quiet intimacy to every wedding we document.
"If you're looking for a photographer to document your story — not just pose it — we might be a perfect match."
"Your images are too dark. You'll never make it."

When I launched Weddings by Qay in 2017 with a single booking on the books, the local photography community was not encouraging. My cinematic, shadow-rich style — so different from the bright, posed aesthetic that dominated the market — drew open criticism. I was told my work was unwatchable. Nobody would pay for it.
I kept going anyway.
The turning point came through international mentors — photographers who saw exactly what I was trying to do, and helped me refine it. Second shooting in Scotland and Finland. Collaborating with world-class artists. Building a practice, shot by shot, that was unmistakably my own.
Within two years, Rangefinder Magazine had named me a Rising Star. Condé Nast Brides called me one of the best wedding photographers in the world. Harper's Bazaar published my couple. The critics went quiet.
"Some of those same critics still claim I buy my awards. I've learned that when people can't explain your success, they invent reasons for it."

Not just a photographer.
A presence.
Three things every couple notices — usually before they even open their gallery.

Recognised by the world's best.
Awards don't make a great photographer. But they confirm what couples already know the moment they open their gallery: that my eye for the decisive moment is rare, internationally recognized, and entirely in service of your story.
The person you'll spend your wedding day with
is also just a human being.

I'm a husband, a father, and someone who takes his responsibility to your day seriously. Off the clock, I'm obsessively curious about food, film, music, and travel. The same qualities that make me chase a story halfway around the world are what make me deeply attentive to the quiet moments in between.
