Divya is Indian, Joao is Portuguese, and home for both of them is Dubai — which made this wedding a celebration of three cultures colliding in one weekend, not just two. Most of Divya's family flew in from India for it, so beyond the wedding itself, this was a reunion for a lot of people who don't get to be in the same room often. They'd actually done their civil registration a year before this, so what we were shooting wasn't a legal formality — it was the celebration they'd been waiting a year to have.

It started with the mehndi night on the rooftop of Centro Barsha in Dubai, golden hour light spilling over copper serving vessels and Divya laughing through the henna application in a navy, gold-embroidered blouse — intimate, warm, low-key compared to what was coming.

The next day, everyone made the drive out to InterContinental Fujairah Resort, where every single guest was staying — turning the whole wedding into more of a shared retreat than a single-day event. The resort sits right against the Hajar Mountains with the ocean on the other side, and it made for one of the most dramatic ceremony backdrops we've shot: rows of blush chiavari chairs on an open lawn, mountains rising directly behind the mandap.

The Indian ceremony itself — the sacred fire, the rituals — was everything you'd hope for: colorful, loud in the best way, genuinely alive. We wore Indian traditional dress ourselves that day, cameras and all, because if we were going to be trusted with documenting this culture, we wanted to show up honoring it, not just observing it from behind a lens.

The ceremony wound down into a sunset teatime overlooking the mountains, and by evening, everyone had moved into the Main Ballroom for a full reception — and, because apparently one party wasn't enough, an after-party that followed right after. It was a genuinely eventful day, with a lot of moving pieces and not everything going exactly to plan — but that's exactly what made it feel real instead of rehearsed.
